“The world is facing a challenging time, and in these moments it is important that the Jamat remains united and focused on helping those who will need assistance and hand-holding.”

Savvy Saving
If you are struggling to pay your internet or mobile bill, contact your provider as soon as possible to see what help can be provided.  The UK’s major internet and mobile providers – namely BT/EE, Openreach, Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk, O2, Vodafone, Three, Hyperoptic, Gigaclear and KCOM – have agreed to work with customers who find it difficult to pay their bill as a result of Covid-19 to ensure they are appropriately supported.  Providers will remove data allowance caps on fixed internet services (but these will still apply on mobile contracts).  Providers have agreed further measures to ensure vulnerable consumers, including those self-isolating, can stay connected.
Laughter Yoga
Aga Khan Health Board presents Naseem Nanji holding a session on Laughing Yoga.  Laughing Yoga is a modern exercise involving prolonged voluntary laughter.  When you start laughing, your chemistry changes, your physiology changes, your chances to experience happiness are much greater.  Join us here and prepare your body and mind for happiness.  To view all the exciting exercises AKHB has prepared for the Jamat, click here.
Preparing for Parenthood: Important Information
If you are expecting a baby soon, this may be an exciting time for you.  In the wake of COVID-19, here are some updates on how pregnancy care has changed in the UK (this may be subject to change, depending on your hospital):
  1. Antenatal appointments should still be taking place, but group classes are not.  Only expecting mothers can attend.
  2. For delivery, birthing partners are allowed to be with you while you deliver, but will need to leave soon after.
If you have any questions, are struggling with any aspect of your pregnancy during this time, or would just like someone to talk to, please contact WAP@iiuk.org. Look out for more updates in the coming weeks. Information correct at time of publishing.  Please visit https://www.rcog.org.uk/ for up to date information.
Rules on Carrying over Annual Leave to be Relaxed
The government has announced that workers unable to take all of their statutory annual leave this year will be entitled to carry it over into the next two leave years.  Currently, the statutory annual leave entitlement for most workers who work a five-day week is 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays).  The new regulations will allow up to four weeks of unused leave to be carried into the next two leave years.  This will ensure workers do not lose their leave entitlements and will provide businesses with flexibility at a time they need it most.  These changes will amend the current ‘Working Time Regulations’ which apply to almost all workers.  For more information click here.
ITREB Thought of the Day: #WednesdayWisdom
Did you know, everyday calculations and Google searches we take for granted in our day-to-day lives are linked back to the centres of learning in Muslim civilisations?  From Baghdad to Bukhara, and Cordoba to Cairo, Muslim mathematicians, astronomers, and physicists made essential contributions to the modern world.  One of these was the famous Persian mathematician Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, from whose name we derive the word “algorithm,” and who also discovered algebra.  It is because of his work that the Indo-Arabic numerals one to nine as well as zero were introduced to the world, laying the foundation for modern computing and data processing.
