"The moment that people of any generation, of any age, lose hope, it is a very, very damaging thing for that community, that society.  So creating circumstances of hope, is to me very, very important indeed."

Your Smartphone Carries Germs!
Smartphones can carry COVID19 making it important to clean those gadgets regularly.  Turn your phone off before cleaning.  Disinfectant wipes with no additional abrasives work well for smartphones.  Using a 70% alcohol wipe, gently wipe the exterior surfaces of your mobile.  If you have a smartphone that is waterproof, you can dampen a microfibre cloth in water mixed with a little soap.  Stay away from all edges and open slots such as earphones and charging ports.  Do not use towels or tissues as they are more likely to damage the protective, scratch-resistant layer on your phone’s display. We recommend cleaning your phone at least twice a week.

Savvy Savings
Use this time at home to do a “spring clean” and pick out things you no longer need which have monetary value.  We suggest you consider selling these on eBay or other similar sites.  Be sure to read and follow the procedures of each website closely to ensure transactions are completed correctly and securely.  Stay safe and maintain social distancing even when the courier company comes to pick up the items you are selling.  Click here for more information on how to sell goods on eBay.

Building Resilience
In place of the International Women’s Day event scheduled today, the Women’s Activities Portfolio shares food for thought around this year’s theme of ‘resilience’.  We also encourage you to take a moment today to acknowledge the girls and women in your life and celebrate their achievements!  Click here for the full article.

Jobspot
Supermarkets are searching for 35,000 additional workers, but many other firms supplying essential goods or services are also looking for extra help so they can cope with the increased demand.  Home care company Cera has created 10,000 new jobs.  Chemist chain Lloyds Pharmacy is seeking 1,500 workers across the country in the next few days.  And Virgin Media says it needs 500 new people at Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester and Teesside.  Some of these opportunities can be found here.  For one-to-one employment support or help applying to jobs please contact akepb@iiuk.org.

ITREB Thought of the Day: #SoulfulSunday
The arts of the Islamic world span 1400 years, cover many lands and populations, and include a range of artistic fields including painting, architecture, calligraphy, ceramics, and textiles, among others.  Islamic arts focus on the spiritual representation of objects and being, rather than their physical qualities.  Often vibrant and distinctive, their strong aesthetic appeal transcend time and space, as well as differences in language and culture.  Rather than replicating nature as it is, Muslim artists may try to convey what it represents, expressing the parallels between creativity and divinity.  As the famous author Karen Armstrong has said, “Like art, religion is an imaginative and creative effort to find meaning and value in human life.”

Maintaining Healthy Relationships and Emotional Well Being
Our personal relationships are an important part of our lives that we must nurture and cherish.  The current climate of isolation and economic uncertainty can put undue pressures upon relationships and can lead to differences and disputes.  The National Conciliation and Arbitration Board (NCAB) assist the Jamat to resolve disputes amicably, with impartiality and utmost confidentiality.  With accredited online dispute resolution skills, NCAB can continue this work during these unprecedented times.  For tips on preventing disputes and maintaining peace and harmony during these difficult times click here.
