“Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife.”
Khalil Gibran

Avoid Illicit Substances
Now more than ever during this time of uncertainty, financial instability, health concerns and separation from loved ones, it is easy to turn to substances such as alcohol, smoking and drug use to help cope. Unfortunately, these substances do not help us in the long term and leave us feeling more low and despondent. If you would like any further support or advice during this time in confidence, please contact one of our health professionals at AKHB via the IIUK directory, or email akhb@iiuk.org.

Singalong Saturday
AKYSB presents Singalong Saturday. Every Saturday we will feature past and present music. This Saturday we present a video called 'Spring' composed by the Ismaili Community Ensemble (ICE) for their recent concert entitled People Planet Purpose – Starting with me.
ICE compose all of their own music and this year they looked at their personal responsibility of creating an environment of care, kindness and humanity. This song was inspired by their love for qawwali music and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song called Haje Latha Nahio Akhiyan Da Cha.  Spring looks at a new beginning, a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can be.
If you would like to be featured on singalong saturday, please email ice@iiuk.org

ITREB Thought of the Day: #SaturdaySchool
The oldest mosque in Europe is widely regarded to be the Mezquita in southern Spain, also known as the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. The building was initially a church, and then a shared prayer space between Muslims and Christians. From 784 CE onwards, Abd al-Rahman I and his descendants worked over the course of two centuries to convert it into a mosque. Traditionally, the mihrab of a mosque faces towards Mecca; Mecca is east-southeast of Spain, but the mihrab of the Mesquita unusually points south. In 1236, Córdoba was conquered by King Ferdinand III of Castile, and the centre of the mosque was converted into a Catholic cathedral. This varied lineage has made the Mezquita one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain, and the remarkable combination of architectural styles has made it one of the most striking buildings in the world. Today, it stands as a wonderful example of pluralism embodied in architecture.
