As we focus now on overcoming the present challenges, the Jamat and all my institutions should plan to build for the future from a position of strength and wisdom. I send my most affectionate paternal, maternal loving blessings for the good health, safety, and well-being of all my murids, with best loving blessings for mushkil-asan.
Volunteering During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The National Council is pleased to inform the Jamat of a new community support initiative, Ismaili CIVIC, to support our local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. We warmly invite all interested members of the Jamat to volunteer with various projects to support the needy during this challenging period. We hope to sign-post a range of opportunities including, but not limited to, assembly and delivery of packages, virtual mentoring and support, and making PPE for healthcare professionals. Whilst some opportunities may be undertaken from home, others, subject to appropriate health & safety measures and following government guidelines, may require leaving the house. Please see our guidelines for volunteers suitable for these projects by clicking here . To sign up as a volunteer, complete the volunteer registration form here. You will need to login to your IIUK account and click on the purple ‘Ismaili CIVIC - COVID-19 response’ box on the left hand side to register. Visit the Ismaili CIVIC - COVID-19 Response page here.
Everyday this month, we will share daily activities for children and families to come together, observe, and commemorate Ramadan. To download the calendar in full, click here for English and German.
Heritage Webinar Series
In the Persian poem by Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar, the birds of the world gather to find their master. This online event will discuss the poem and the questions it raises, including:
Who does the true master represent? What is the significance of the birds’ journey? And how does this story relate to our modern context? Join us for this exciting webinar, to be facilitated by Dr Farouk Mitha. Please register your interest here.
We want to hear from you
Following the Jamati talk delivered by Alwaez Moyez Alwani during the online programme on Saturday evening, we would greatly appreciate any feedback, so as to help us plan and improve future programming. Please click here to complete a short survey. Thank you.
Calling all teachers!
“The ripple effect that a teacher can have as he or she touches the lives of hundreds of students over the years provides a multiplier that even the sharpest businessman would envy." Mawlana Hazar Imam, October, 2000
Are you a teacher? Would you like to share a top tip with parents/carers for supporting their children’s learning at home? AKEB would love to hear from you and celebrate the excellent work that you’re doing. Please record a short video (30-60 seconds) of yourself sharing your top tip and include your name and profession. Videos should be recorded landscapes, against a blank wall where possible. Email your video to akeb.events@iiuk.org. We will be sharing these on social media.

The first step to creating a budget: Getting organised
A budget is a plan for one of your most important resources – your income. The current environment presents us with an opportunity to organise ourselves and understand where our money goes, identify our fixed and discretionary expenses and make changes where we can. Making sure you have all this information to hand is the first step to making a plan for your finances and ensuring you have achievable financial goals in mind and a road map of how to get there. For more detailed information on this topic, listen to the AKEPB Educates: Managing Your Money Podcast #2.
CV Writing - Best Practice Guide
Given the current state of the economy, many members of the Jamat may find they will soon need to re-enter the job market. Most job searches begin with creating or updating your CV, or curriculum vitae. With the average recruiter spending 75 seconds on reading a CV, first impressions really count when applying for a job. To give you a hand with your CV, AKEPB has prepared a comprehensive best practice guide.
We are also offering 1-to-1 assistance with your CV, cover letter or interview preparation. Please contact us by email on akepb@iiuk.org
ITREB Thought of the Day: #SoulfulSunday
Throughout human history, expressions of art and culture have offered solace and optimism to people and communities struggling with the anxiety of uncertain and unpredictable times. In fact, art is often motivated by the search for meaning in an environment of complexity. Intended to entertain, educate and provoke thought, cultural endeavours have the ability to plug knowledge gaps, challenge stereotypes, and inform observers about the essential nature of the human condition. In current times of flux, rather than become engulfed with turmoil and despair at the state of the world around us, various forms of artistic and cultural expression can inspire us to infuse our own lives with a sense of enlightenment and calm understanding.
