Cancelled Flights - Can I get a Refund?
Many airlines are currently cancelling flights. EU flight delay rules entitle you to choose between either a refund for the cancelled flight or an alternative flight. If your airline is only offering a voucher via its website, make sure you call them for a full refund. To remain eligible for a refund, you should wait for the airline to cancel first instead of cancelling a booking yourself.
British Airways: If you have an active flight booking with BA for before 31st July 2020, you are able to cancel it for free and claim a voucher for future bookings - valid until 30/04/2022. If BA cancels the flight, you are entitled to a free refund. So if you are trying to get cash rather than a BA voucher, you are better off waiting for BA to cancel the flight.
Ryanair: The airline is currently under scrutiny for only offering vouchers for cancelled flights, not refunds. If vouchers are unclaimed by the end of the year, customers will be refunded.
If you have a booking with an airline that refuses to comply with the regulations, to claim your refund, you can use the government's Alternative dispute resolution service.
