Student Loan Deadline - 22nd of May 2020
The Student Loan application deadline for students going to University this year is Friday the 22nd of May. Students who are returning to university for their second, third or later years are asked to apply to the Student Loans Company by 19th June 2020. To apply you don't need to know what course you're taking or even which university you'll attend. If you decide to defer or not to go, the loan will lapse and you won't be charged. To make an application, visit the government website.
If you miss the deadline, you can still apply, however there is a risk you won’t receive payments before the start of the term. The absolute latest you can apply is 9 months after you start your course.
Mental Health Matters: Kindness Matters
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is "Kindness". Research has shown that kindness and mental health are deeply connected. Kindness is an antidote to isolation and creates a sense of belonging. To receive or give kindness is also an act of courage. During this ongoing time of uncertainty and difficulty for many of us, we must support each other, and we must be kind to ourselves as well as to those around us.
To learn more about how we can support ourselves and each other with our mental wellbeing, click here to view the AKHB webinar on Mental Health.

Do you know a STAR teacher?  On 20 May, we celebrate National Thank a Teacher Day. Let’s take the opportunity to say thank you to all our amazing teachers who are doing a star job each and every day.  For more details or to join in and share your message of thanks with Thank a Teacher before 20 May. AKEB and ITREB would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers and education professionals that have assisted us with our programmes during these challenging times.
ITREB Thought of the Day
The name al-Malik means the Sovereign. A Sovereign is a king, queen, or leader who rules over people. Allah rules over everything, and nothing happens without al-Malik’s permission. Humans can be a reminder of power and majesty. We have power over the natural world, and it is our responsibility to look after the entire planet on God’s behalf. People with power can be impressive, but being able to control oneself is even greater. List 3 qualities that make a good leader, and find examples of spiritual leaders who have or had these qualities.
