‘Educated’ by Tara Westover
Recommended by Karina Govindji, Director for DE&I, Google
“Educated is a true story about a young girl who grew up in isolation and encouraged to prepare for the end of the world. Despite this, Tara decided to get educated and is offered a place at a local University, then at Harvard. This book tells of a courageous girl and gets to the heart of what an education is: the opportunity to see your life through new eyes, and the desire to change it.” Buy a copy here.

Rent Payments for Tenants & Landlords
If you are struggling to pay your rent during this outbreak, you are advised to contact your landlord to let them know your circumstances and to work out a repayment plan.  For landlords in England and Wales, the Government has said that 3 months notice (between the period 26th March to 30th September 2020) needs to be given to tenants before starting eviction proceedings. Please note: this change will not affect eviction proceedings already under way.  The emergency coronavirus legislation for Scotland prevents tenants being evicted for up to six months.  Beyond these 3 or 6 month periods, the expectation is to work on an affordable repayment plan which takes into account the tenants circumstances. Additionally, private landlords are eligible for a 3 month buy-to-let mortgage payment holiday if their tenants are experiencing financial difficulties.  To learn more about how to manage your money, tune into the Wise Wallets Podcast Series. For support or guidance, we are here to help. Please email us at  EPBUKInfo@iiuk.
ITREB Thought of the Day
Qawwali - a genre of Muslim devotional music was founded in the 13th century by the Chisti Sufi scholar, poet and musician Amir Khusrau - as a path to the Divine. Khusrau was a Qawwal, a Sufi-pir who recites and remembers the words of the Prophet Muhammed (pubh). Qawwali fuses together the practice of lyrical repetition and remembrance known in Arabic as Qaul, and combines Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Indian musical traditions. Poetry in praise of Allah, Prophet Muhammed and Hazrat Ali would be recited at mehfils held at Sufi shrines called dargahs on Thursday evenings and on every night of Ramadan. Qawwali mehfils can last from dusk until dawn, evoking spiritual ecstasy and culminating in fana or Divine union. The tradition of qawwali as a form of musical devotion lives on in many parts of South Asia today.
