It is my wish that my Jamat should look to the future with hope and courage, in keeping with its age-old tradition of unity, generosity and mutual support which has at all times enabled it to move forward to a position of enhanced strength and resilience, from generation to generation.
Reflections Phone Line
Members of the Jamat that do not have Internet access and are unable to participate in the institutional evening programs are encouraged to call into our weekly Reflections Phone Line, with separate programmes in English and Gujarati. The short programme will be available to listen to from Sunday to Saturday each week and can be accessed 24 hours a day. This week's programme will be available from 2pm BST on Sunday 31sth May, and will include:

English Programme, Dial 0333 015 1132 – an ITREB talk by Dr Shiraz Kabani
Gujarati Programme, Dial 0333 015 1133 - Talk by Dr Karim Gulamali on “Why does the Imam send blessings to his Jamat?”

Calls to 0333 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to a local 01 or 02 numbers. Mobile phone tariffs allow the calling of 0333 numbers in their monthly quota of telephone minutes and providing you have not used your quota of minutes for the month you will not be charged any extra for calling an 0333 number.

Members of the Jamat are asked to share this information with other members of their family who do not have internet access.

Furlough Scheme - Updates for Employers
The UK Government has announced that the job retention scheme, or furlough scheme, will finish at the end of October. Furloughed Workers will be allowed to return to work on a part-time basis from July, but with companies paying 100% of wages while they work. It will be down to individual firms to decide what part-time means. Furloughed workers will continue to receive 80% of pay until the end of October. However, there are important changes for employers, who will need to begin contributing towards this amount:
  • From August, employers must pay National Insurance and pension contributions.

  • From September, employers must contribute 10% of pay.

  • From October, employers must contribute 20% of pay.

To help simplify the changes that come into effect from August, use this easy-to-understand graphic by the BBC.

Overseas Nationals - Returning Home
Overseas nationals who cannot return home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic will be able to extend their visa until the end of July. The extension will last until 31 July and will apply to anyone whose leave expired after 24 January and cannot leave the country because of travel restrictions or self-isolation. While the government has offered this extension to help those who are unable to get home prior to 31 July, those currently in the UK on temporary visas, such as visitor visas, should return home as soon as it is safe and possible to do so. Singalong Saturdays
AKYSB presents Singalong Saturday. This week we present 24 year old, Ammer Zain - he is originally from Syria and now lives in Hannover, Germany. He plays an oriental instrument called “The Oud“ and the piece is called “My Grandmother‘s Dance” composed by Omar Al-Nakshabandi. This type of music reminds Ammer of his homeland, beautiful Syria. WAP Recommends
‘The Salt Path’ by Raynor Winn - Recommended by Shalina Hooda, National Council member for WAP.

“‘Our journey had drained us of every emotion, sapped our strength and our will.’ There have been many moments when lockdown life has left us feeling like this! The trials faced by the couple in this story, who lose everything and decide to trek 630m along the South West Coast path, will impress upon you just how resilient we can be. The reflective narrative will help us to slow things down and look at life in a different way.

ITREB Thought of the Day
An excerpt from Book III of Jalal al-Din Rumi’s Mathnavi, translated by Kabir Helminski:
Even though you’re not equipped, keep searching; equipment isn’t necessary on the way to the Lord. Whoever you see engaged in search, become her friend and cast your head in front of her, for choosing to be a neighbour of seekers, you become one yourself; protected by conquerors, you will yourself learn to conquer. If an ant seeks the rank of Solomon, don’t smile contemptuously upon its quest. Everything you possess of skill, and wealth and handicraft, wasn’t it first merely a thought and a quest?
