Perhaps the key to resolving the Paradox of Citizenship is to think about layers of overlapping identity. After all, one can honour a variety of loyalties - to a faith, an ethnicity, a language, a nation, a city, a profession, a school, even to a sports team! One might share some of these identities with some people, and other identities with others.
Face Coverings Mandatory on Public Transport
From 15 June 2020, face coverings will be mandatory on public transport in England. Individuals may be refused travel and potentially fined if they do not comply with this new regulation. Please click here for information on how to wear a cloth face covering or how to make your own face covering. Individuals are reminded to continue to adhere to social distancing and hand hygiene whilst using public transport and are encouraged to keep hand sanitizer on them for regular use whilst getting on and off public transport. If you are feeling unwell, you should refrain from going outside and from taking public transport.
Saving on Your Council Tax
Check if you are eligible for a saving on your council tax bill, examples include:
  • If you are struggling financially due to the Coronavirus, many councils offer payment holidays (i.e. a temporary break from paying). However, you will need to call your council and ask them if they are offering this.
  • If you receive benefits or are on a low income, you can get up to 100% off your bill. Claim this as soon as you can, as it may not be something that can be backdated - so the longer you wait, the less you will save.
  • If you are eligible for the “severe mental impairment” discount (this includes those people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease), you will not have to pay if you live alone, or may be able to receive a 25% discount if you live with someone.
  • If you live alone or with under-18s and/or carers, you may be able to receive a 25% discount and claim a rebate for past years.
  • Full-time students are exempt from council tax

Wise Wallets on Wills - Applying for Probate
When someone in your family passes away, there are a number of official matters that need to be taken care of such as registering the death, arranging the funeral and locating the deceased’s Will (if he or she made one). You then have to deal with all the deceased’s assets, liabilities and financial affairs – together, known as the ‘estate’ of the deceased. The Grant of Probate is a type of court order giving authority to the deceased’s Personal Representatives to collect in and distribute the assets of the deceased.
In Episode #7 of the Wise Wallets series, AKEPB and the Legal Committee explain what Probate is and the process of applying for it in order to administer the estate of the deceased. Learn more by listening to episode #7.

ITREB Thought of the Day
Did you know that the word cosmos, referring to the order of the universe, comes from the Greek word kosmos – meaning ornamentation or adornment – from which we also derive the word cosmetics? The Greek philosopher Plato described the movement of the planets and galaxies as the “music of the heavenly spheres.” Astrologists, scientists and theologians believe that this ‘music’ is reflected in the natural symmetries found in nature, particularly in plants and flowers. Since the dawn of civilisation, seekers have concentrated on the visual forms of the garden as a focus for contemplation and meditation. Mathematicians translated the symmetries of nature into geometric and arabesque ornamentation, allowing viewers to perceive the underlying order of the natural world and the cosmos. Muslim architects used floral and geometric patterns to adorn sacred buildings, uniting the built environment with the natural world, and thereby enabling us to perceive the subtle harmonies that unite us with the cosmos.
