In my life, first of all, there is the happiness of working with a wonderful community. There are challenges every day, but you know, we are looking at the ethics of human life. In that sense, trying to make sure that the ethics of human life are well respected within the context of Islam is a major everyday, every minute issue. It never leaves you.
Global Encounters and Aga Khan Youth and Sports Boards from around the world are joining together to offer a new virtual summer camp for the youth of the global Jamat. The programme will allow students to engage with other Ismaili youth from different countries, better understand the work of the Aga Khan Development Network, collaborate on creative projects, interact with experts in various fields, and participate in cultural exchange. CONNECT will take place from 20-31 July 2020 and is open to Ismaili students around the world (aged 14-17). Registration for the camp is currently underway and will close on 4 July 2020. Spaces are limited and early registration is highly encouraged. To learn more and register, please visit: the.ismaili/globalencounters.
Stories on the Rooftop
In the current climate, the importance of maintaining strong social ties is vital (especially whilst managing an ongoing, pre-existing medical condition). Through a conversation with the audience, Alykhan will share his personal insights into the trials and tribulations of a decade-long rollercoaster with Multiple Sclerosis, including an intense stem cell transplant. A key aim of the session will be to explore personal coping mechanisms and how to increase our capacity to be comfortable with the discomforts and challenges of life. Join us on Wednesday 1 July at 8pm BST, via this Zoom link.

ITREB Thought of the Day
Many historians today rely on the travelogues or Rihlas of Muslim travellers such as Ibn Battuta and Ibn Jubayr for an understanding of the geography, culture, political and socioeconomic norms of the mediaeval Muslim world. The Rihla as a literary genre originally developed as the account of a journey taken with the intent of performing Hajj but quickly grew to include vastly expanded itineraries. They became “creative travelogues” whose pages ranged from personal musings and poetic impressions of new places, anecdotes and recommendations for travel routes and passages, as well as scholarly notes and observations on everything from human nature to astronomy. The travelogue in Persian became a Safarnama and perhaps one of the most famous examples is Nasir Khusraw’s account of his journey from Central Asia to Fatimid Cairo to meet the Caliph-Imam Al-Mustansir Billah. When you travel how do you like to record your memories? Do you take lots of photographs, keep a diary or collect souvenirs?
