In our search for a solution, I am convinced that we must call upon our own men and women, who have achieved positions of eminence anywhere in the world, and persuade them to return, for us to benefit from their knowledge, their learning and their work. All too often in my journeys I have met or learnt of outstanding Muslim scholars, doctors, scientists, and architects who have remained abroad, or who, when they do come home, have failed to receive the support and encouragement necessary for them to bring to their nations' benefit their Muslim outlook on key areas of modern progress.

Health Advice from AKHB
Whilst certain lockdown measures are relaxing with the opening of restaurants and shops and people being encouraged to return back to work in certain situations, individuals are urged to remain cautious and continue with good hand hygiene and appropriate social distancing. It is important to remember the safety of yourselves and those around you by adhering to these good practices. Individuals are asked to refrain from taking part in large gatherings with many people which contravene government guidelines. The safety of the Jamat is of the utmost importance during this time.
Stories of generosity and compassion in the Jamat
Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims around the world in commemoration of one of the greatest trials of faith in the life of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham – upon whom be peace). During the Covid-19 Pandemic, many of us have faced large trials and have overcome them through the support of one another. We would like to share some of these stories with the global Jamat. If you have a story to share, please click here. We will endeavour to share as many stories as possible, but may not be able to share all that have been submitted. Deadline to submit Sun 26 July 2020.

Singalong Saturday
Singalong Saturday presents Kiyan Somji, also known as LowKiy. Kiyan’s song (listen here) is called THNQ (Thank You) . The main goal Kiyan has set for himself in 2020 is to show more gratitude and be more thankful for everything he has. The idea of manifesting thoughts into his music inspired him to make this song about being thankful. He hopes you too can use this song as a way to reflect upon all the good you have in your life and realise that sometimes we can take a step back and simply appreciate what life throws our way. If you would like to be featured in Singalong Saturday, please email ice@iiuk.org

ITREB Thought of the Day
For Muslims, regular prayer and remembrance of the Divine is one of the five pillars of Islam, and many of us intrinsically know the healing power of prayer. Now science can back our belief! Dr Andrew Newberg has been studying the effect of prayer on the human brain for more than 20 years. Prayer significantly alters brain activity and could be used alongside science and medicine as a path towards healing. Worried about ageing? Regular daily prayer prevents the frontal brain lobe that regulates memory, reading and speaking from shrinking. Seeking mental wellbeing? Prayer neutralises both the parietal lobe - which when overstimulated, causes feelings of isolation as well as the limbic system that activates negative emotions. Want to feel connected to others? Prayer also stimulates the brain’s anterior cingulate that regulates our social and communal wellbeing, leading to a healthier and happier sense of self.
