Philanthropy and charitable giving hold a very central place in the teachings of the Holy Quran, the writings of Islamic teachers, and the history of Muslims in all parts and all cultures of the Islamic World, including here on the sub-continent. Islam's clear and explicit injunction is to share resources beyond ones reasonable commitments, and to care for those in need.

ITREB Thought of the Day
The name ar-Rahim means the Merciful. To be merciful means to be loving, gentle, and ready to forgive. Similar to ar-Rahman, ar-Rahim comes from the Arabic word for ‘womb’ - this is a sign that the Merciful is loving and protective, like a mother’s womb around a baby. The Holy Qur’an says that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent as a mercy to all the creatures of the world - he treated all living things with gentleness and respect. He was renowned for his loving, humble, generous, and trustworthy character. The English playwright William Shakespeare once wrote that mercy is “twice blest; It blessed him that gives and him that takes.” What do you think he meant by this?
